United States Caribbean Engagement

The United States partners with Caribbean governments in protection of our shared values, and to improve Caribbean resilience in all factors – economy, security, and democracy – so that the people of the Caribbean and the United States experience prosperity, health, and freedom.  Food Security  The United States Government is imparting the Caribbean with $28 million in assistance to tackle urgent food security needs. USAID deployed 5 technical professionals to the Caribbean place who recommend on environment friendly use of fertilizer, biofertilizer production, nutrient administration and crop insurance feasibility, and are working to model to streamline intraregional trade and improve an operational logistics and supply chainThe United States Environmental Protection Agency performed three capacity constructing coaching periods to promote pesticide administration and strengthen food security. USAID launched the two-year, $2.7 million Resilient Agriculture Activity (RAA) in the Dominican Republic to at once tackle the spike in food prices, crude oil and commodities including fertilizers and different frequent agricultural inputs—due to grant chain disruptions ensuing from the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Covid-19 pandemic. RAA will focus on soil fertility and fertilizer great practices, different climate-smart agriculture practices and local, organic fertilizer production. USAID, in coordination with CARICOM, is designing an integrated meals protection exercise that will make bigger farmer adoption of climate-smart technologies, enhance smallholder fruit and vegetable production, construct capacity of SMEs in agro-processing, amplify technical know-how amongst extensionists, and tackle sanitary and phytosanitary measures limiting open trade. The United States, CARICOM, and the Dominican Republic developed medium- and long-term motion plans that will information ongoing efforts to enhance meals security in the region. Energy Security  Under the United States-Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis 2030 (PACC 2030) the United States is working with Caribbean countries to strengthen wide-ranging, long-term energy safety and climate resilience solutions. Understanding the want for reliable, least expensive energy solutions, in January 2023, the United States Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued Trinidad and Tobago a particular license to enable them to enhance the Dragon gas field, positioned in Venezuelan maritime territory, paving the way for LNG from this eventual project to gain the entire Caribbean. Climate Change We congratulate those CARICOM member international locations that have joined a hundred and fifty countries in endorsing the Global Methane Pledge, and we are committed to working together to meet our collective goal to reduce international methane emissions 30 percentage by using 2030 – the single most positive approach to limit warming in the near term. We seem to be ahead to supporting national u . s . planning and associated methane discount policy and challenge efforts, specifically in the waste sector. In January 2023, USAID announced its intention to partner with the Government of Barbados with funding to help the institution of the Blue Green Investment Corporation, a regional financing car to finance projects that will help with local weather exchange mitigation and adaptation, together with resilient housing, renewable energy, green transportation, and water conservation. The United States supported flexibility in the IMF’s allocation of the Resilience Sustainability Trust, beneath which the IMF approved sizeable financing for Barbados’ future investments in climate resilience.  Vice President Harris met with six Caribbean heads of country at the White House when you consider that the Summit of the Americas.  Two interagency scoping missions traveled to the place under the auspices of PACC 2030. United States Development Finance Corporation Chief Operating Officer traveled to the location in January 2023.
